The “beauty-from-within” category is firmly entrenched in consumers’ minds; natural health-oriented women (and men) get the fact that if they want their skin to not only look gorgeous but be healthy, supplements are the way to go.

There’s collagen, omega 3 EFAs, and even probiotics. But there’s also maqui berry (Aristotelia chilensis), a marvel in the berry world with the highest antioxidant levels.

The maqui berry contains high levels of polyphenols, anthocyanins, quercetin, flavonoids, along with omega fatty acids, iron, calcium, vitamin C and potassium making it a very highly nutritious, high antioxidant fruit that can help to improve the immune system.

Maqui berries have a profuse content of antioxidants, chiefly, a potent family of delphinidins, a type of anthocyanin. In fact, maqui is one of the highest ORAC antioxidant potential of the “superberry” squad. Overall, pre-clinical (in vitro) research has demonstrated that maqui berry can support skin health and beauty as a supplement by:

  • supporting Healthy Aging
  • protecting Cells from Oxidative Stress
  • neutralizing free radicals
  • supporting Healthy Immune & Inflammatory Function
  • inhibiting production of pro-inflammatory COX-2inhibiting production of NF Kappa B, the master inflammation “switch” that also controls production of cytokines and enzymes that cause inflammation

With these actions, it is clear to see that adding maqui berry for summer sun protection supplements is a worthy consideration. In one in vitro study, Maqui Berry extract was shown to suppress damage to cells exposed to ultraviolet rays.

MaquiCare® (8% delphinidin, 10% anthocyanins) is ready for its closeup — according to Nutrition Business Journal’s 2022 Condition Specific Report, beauty/skin support supplement sales are estimated to reach approximately $1.57 billion this year, compared to $1.430 billion in sales in 2022, and $1.385 billion in 2021.

An opportunity opening up noted by NBJ in its report is beauty/skin supplements for men. The report states, “Men, as always, remain the next frontier for Beauty from Within, but marketers may need to go deep to find a word more apt for those consumers than ‘beauty.’ Men are vain creatures, but they speak a different language.”

Our maqui berry is wild harvested by the Mapuche in a certified organic native forest in Chile. For centuries the Mapuche and other indigenous peoples considered the plant that grows the maqui berries to be sacred and it was used in ceremonial practices and to promote health.

Today, the Mapuche work with us to sustainably harvest the maqui berry, which is grown abundantly in a pollution-free native forest. They collect the berries without machines and use pruned branches as fertilizer for the plants. MaquiCare® is 100% certified organic by both US NOP and EU.

HP Ingredients provides a variety of MaquiCare® ingredients ranging from juice concentrate, whole fruit powder, liquid concentrate powder, and standardized extract. MaquiCare® is produced at our state-of-the-art facility in Italy that is certified organic and kosher, standardized to 8% delphinidin and 10% anthocyanins.
