BRADENTON, FL – A newly published human study has shown LJ100® the premier Tongkat Ali (aka Eurycoma longifolia), has definitive action in reversing the hormonal cascade that leads to diminished testosterone production in aging males, according to Annie Eng, CEO, HP Ingredients.

In the new study (Chinnappan, Food & Nutrition Research), researchers investigated the efficacy of LJ100® (as Physta®) in improving testosterone profiles and attendant quality of life in 105 men with low testosterone.

This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study gave 105 men aged 50–70 years either LJ100® 100 mg, 200 mg or placebo daily for 12 weeks. The researchers looked primarily at changes in serum total and free testosterone levels; followed by changes in the level of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), thyroid function tests (T3, T4, TSH and Free T3) and cortisol all as secondary endpoints. Changes in Ageing Male Symptoms (AMS) score, Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) score and muscle strength are other secondary endpoints.

There was a significant increase in the total testosterone levels at week 12 in the LJ100® 100 mg group and at weeks 4, 8 and 12 in the LJ100® 200 mg group compared to placebo. No significant between-group differences in free testosterone levels were observed but a significant within-group increase occurred at weeks 4, 8 and in the LJ100®100 mg group and at weeks 2, 4, 8 and 12 in the LJ100® 200 mg group.

The AMS and FSS showed significant reduction in total scores at all time-points within- and between-group in both LJ100® groups. DHEA levels significantly increased within-group in both LJ100® groups from week 2 onwards. Cortisol levels significantly decreased in the LJ100® 200 mg group, while muscle strength significantly increased in both LJ100® groups at week 12 in the within-group comparison. Supplementation of LJ100® at 200 mg was able to increase the serum total testosterone, reduce fatigue and improve the quality of life in ageing men within 2 weeks. 1

“Diminished testosterone production and the resulting symptoms – easy onset of fatigue, decreased sexual drive and quality of erections, and weight gain – are a normal consequence of aging in men,” Eng explained. “As more men are wary of testosterone replacement therapy, they are actively seeking herbal alternatives. LJ100® is the most researched and proven Tongkat Ali for men’s health available, period. LJ100® is also proven safe and is sustainable, two key attributes that men would find attractive.”

This new study closely follows the publication of two other human studies of LJ100 in supporting men’s sexual and physical fitness.

Hame Persaud, HP Ingredients’ Executive Vice President, added, “HP Ingredients’ tagline is ‘Where Science Never Sleeps,’ and these studies (with more forthcoming) represent our commitment to helping our brand partners stand out in the marketplace with fresh research demonstrating efficacy and safety in the nutraceutical solutions they seek to improve their lives and well-being.”
