While “mood disorders” are psychiatric in nature and not an allowable health claim, healthy people can experience low moods stemming from a variety of reasons. These causes range from situations, to seasonal affect, to diet, and poor sleep patterns. Commonly, these low moods are often simply called “the blues.”

For the numerous consumers who don’t have psychiatric mood disorders, but find themselves wallowing in occasional blue moods, LJ100 Tongkat ali may help. And we have a couple of studies to support this use.

Effect of a 6-week Lifestyle Program on Mood State and Metabolic Parameters in Moderately Overweight Subjects

Shawn Talbott, Anne-Marie Christopulos, & Candice Ekberg.

Unpublished. (2007)

50 moderately overweight men and women were recruited to participate in a 6-week program of stress management, nutrition intervention, and exercise. Of this group, 40 were given 50mg of LJ100 + Citrus Bioflavanoids, and 10 were given placebo. The following outcomes were observed by the researchers:

  • LJ100 group showed improvement in global mood profile
  • The cortisol:testosterone ratio was reduced significantly by 15% for the LJ100 group vs a 7% increase for the placebo group, suggesting that LJ100 may help promote an anabolic hormonal state. Elevated cortisol levels are known to increase one’s risk for depression and low mood.
  • And, LJ100 group showed significant body weight loss -2.7kg with 87% body fat loss, vs 0.78kg in body weight loss in the placebo group.  Weight loss in healthy individuals tends to bolster mood.

Effect of LJ100 on Stress Hormones and Psychological Mood State in Moderately Stressed Subjects

Published:  Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition 2013, 10:28

In this study, 64 subjects (32 men and 32 women) were randomized to receive 200 mg/day of LJ100 or placebo for 4 weeks. LJ100 group showed significant improvements for Tension (−11%), Anger (−12%), and Confusion (−15%) compared to placebo. Stress hormone profile (salivary cortisol and testosterone) was significantly improved by LJ100, with reduced cortisol (−16%) and increased testosterone (+37%).

The authors concluded that LJ100 appears to have significant potential for restoring hormone balance (cortisol/testosterone) and improving psychological mood state in humans exposed to various modern stressors, including aging, dieting, and exercise stress.

As you know, LJ100® is the world’s most researched Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) and has been shown through human clinical studies to have other powerful and highly relevant uses for supporting human health.
